NSW Shark Attack

A surfer has been bitten by a suspected great white shark on the NSW mid north coast, prompting lifeguards to close a popular beach.

Paramedics were call to Seven Mile Beach at Pacific Palms south of Forster just after 9am on Thursday.

The man, 65, is believed to have been bitten by a great white shark measuring between 2.5-3.5 metres.

He suffered a deep laceration to his foot and has been airlifted to Newcastle's John Hunter hospital where he's in a stable condition, police said.

The man's surfboard was bitten in half, with a huge chunk taken out of the side, according to photo posted on the Newcastle Herald website.

Surf Life Saving NSW are sending assistance.
