Sydney Re-Sign Towers
Forward earn new two-year contract with the Swans
Sydney forward Dean Towers has signed a new two-year contract that ties him to the club until the end of 2018 at least.
Towers came out of contract at the end of this season and was rumoured to be considering a trade this month.
But the 26-year-old will now spend the next two seasons with the Swans.
Swans football manager Tom Harley welcomed Towers’ re-signing.
“We are very pleased that Dean has recommitted to the Swans,” Harley said.
“Dean showed significant improvement in 2016 highlighted by some very strong performances in the second half of the year.
“He adds a point of difference to our team and has the ability to impact the game in a number of ways."
Towers was a mature-age recruit when he was taken at pick No.22 in the 2012 draft.
He has struggled for opportunities for most of his four years at the Swans, with only 30 games to his credit.
But he became a more regular part of the team in 2016 with a career-best 13 matches to his credit, although he was overlooked for the entire finals series.
