Gold Coast young gun Dion Prestia has been traded to Richmond on Wednesday afternoon.

As Triple M Footy’s Damian Barrett reported earlier in the day, the Tigers’ prized pick No.6 is now in the Suns’ possession as part of the deal.

Gold Coast have also received Richmond’s 2017 second-round pick.

The Tigers accepted the Suns’ pick No.24 in this year’s draft in addition to Prestia.

Richmond’s general manager of football talent Dan Richardson said the club was thrilled to secure Prestia.

“We identified Dion earlier this year as a player that we wanted at our football club, he’s a power runner, highly competitive and impacts games significantly,” Richardson said.

“Dion’s management made it clear to us that he was keen to return to Victoria to be closer to his family, and we’re really pleased for our club that he chose Richmond as his preferred destination.

“At 24 years of age, Dion has many years of good football ahead of him, he’s also a person of great character, and being vice-captain at the Gold Coast Suns, he has great leadership qualities also.

“We thank both the Gold Coast Suns and Dion’s manager, Marty Pask, for their cooperation in getting the deal done, and we look forward to seeing Dion running around in the yellow and black very soon.”

A former top-10 draft pick and foundation player at Gold Coast, Prestia has played 95 games since debuting in 2011.

However, knee injuries have restricted him to just 22 games in the past two seasons.

The Tigers are expected to be an active player in the final 24 hours of the trade period with Geelong’s Josh Caddy and Sydney’s Toby Nankervis on their radar.

Gold Coast now have picks 4, 6, 8 and 26 in this year’s draft.
