Fremantle defender Michael Johnson is being investigated by police.

The West Australian report the investigation is over an alleged assault in Perth in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It's beleived a Bunbury man had told police he was hit by a 31-year-old man after a confrontation in a takeaway shop.

Fremantle released a statement on Monday that was published by AFL.com.au:

"We have been made aware that Fremantle player Michael Johnson, who is on leave, was allegedly involved in an incident in Leederville at the weekend," the Dockers said.

"We are in the process of gathering all relevant information.

"We are not in a position to comment further until that process has been completed."
