Steve Smith Could Be Banned For The Second Test
Just what our middle order needs...
Australian captain Steve Smith is facing a possible dissent charge that could see him suspended for next week’s second Test in Hobart.
Smith reacted with frustration when given out in an extremely contentious LBW that a DRS review couldn’t save him from.
Smith was found guilty of dissent against New Zealand in February after an exchange with umpire Ranmore Martinesz in Christchurch, and a second breach in 12 months could see Smith lose up to 100% of his match fee and cop up to two suspension points.
The points equate to missing a Test, which could have disastrous consequences given Australia’s struggles with the middle order.
The Aussies are up against it in the first Test, trailing South Africa by 102 runs with eight wickets still to get in the second innings.
