Meninga Absolutely Blasts Bennett As Four Nations Gets Personal
Things are starting to get ugly ahead of this year's Four Nations tournament, with Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga taking a swipe at England coach Wayne Bennett.
According to Fox Sports' Ben Glover, Meninga took aim at Bennett shortly after landing in Manchester, claiming that Bennett is after his job.
“He wants my job but he hasn’t got it,” Meninga said, reports the Daily Telegraph.
“So obviously he’ll be trying his damnedest to usurp me. We’ll see what happens.”
It's no secret that there may be some truth to this.
Bennett showed an interest in the role during the recent change of the guard from the Tim Sheen era, but the ARL Commission ruled out applicants with full-time NRL jobs with the Kangaroos spot now viewed as a year-long gig.
Shortly after, it was announced that Bennett would be at the helm of the England side - which makes for a thrilling tournament now that reputations are on the line.
