Rescue Goat With Anxiety Finds Zen Like State When She Wears... A Duck Costume
A feel good story about a goat who finds peace when she's a duck.
A rescue goat in the USA has displayed a new level of calm and peace when her owner puts her into, a duck costume.
Reports suggest that Polly is a baby goat with serious medical issues. She's blind, has neurological problems that affect her eating ability and is severely underweight for her age. She also suffers from anxiety.
Her owner, Leanne Lauricella, explains her anxiety in more detail. When Polly can't find Leanne, "...she'll find a corner of a wall in the house, and she'll just start sucking on the wall,"
"So all the corners in our house have these little suck marks from her mouth."
However, Polly shows a new level of zen thanks to a Halloween duck costume that's meant for a child. Leanne bought the costume with the intent to dress Polly up for a photo shoot, but the costume was so effective in calming Polly's anxiety, that Leanne now turns to it as a technique to calm Polly down when she needs it most.
"She just calms down and goes to sleep," Lauricella said. "Instantly. It's become a thing that she's known for."
Encouragingly, the introduction of another rescue goat into the household, a handicapped rescue goat called Pocket, is seemingly having the same effect as the duck costume on Polly.
"When Pocket came home, I laid him on Polly's back... and it just calmed her right down and she went to sleep," Lauricella said.
"It was almost like that duck costume. I've noticed that any time he's lying next to her, she just gets calm. I've never seen her do that with another goat here."
