The RFS has brought a big bushfire near Spencer under control - as of this morning it's burning through six hectares west of Wiseman's Ferry road.
The BLAZE was burning near homes in difficult terrain yesterday afternoon, though was brought under control around 6pm, with no buildings damaged and no evacuations necessary.
It could prove to be a taste of what the Coast will experience this spring fire-wise, with Scott Westcott from the Bureau of Metrology predicting our firefighters will be back on high alert from this Sunday.
"With temperatures up in the high twenties and dry air masses from the west, that should lift the fire danger ratings particularly on the Sunday and Monday," Mr Westcott says.
The Bushfire Danger period officially begins on the Coast on October 1st.
While for nine LGAs across NSW, the start date has been brought forward to today.
The RFS will turn its attention to the north of the Coast this morning, when a three-day, 500 hectare hazard reduction burn will begin in bushland off Bunning Creek Road, Yarramalong at 8am.
