Coasties to Benefit from International Flights out of Newcastle
Work will start this week on a major upgrade to the terminal, allowing it to cater for international services.

The state government is providing $850,000 for the project.

The airport will now ramp up discussions with the airlines about beginning flights to New Zealand, Bali and Fiji. with the aim to begin services before the end of the year.

The first direct overseas flights will most likely be to Auckland.

NSW Infrastructure Minister Andrew Constance made the announcement as construction starts on the upgrade.

“The estimated population serviced by the airport is 1.2 million people, which could open a major new market to carriers to offer local convenience for people travelling from north of Sydney to overseas destinations.”

“The Central Coast, Newcastle, Hunter and Mid North Coast are all likely to benefit both with convenience and economic spin offs with this final hurdle being overcome.”

It's hoped we'll be flying overseas from Newcastle Airport by November.
