The Commonwealth Games gets underway on the Gold Coast today, following last night's Opening Ceremony.
The Central Coast has six representatives, including Avoca Beach veteran Jessie Parahi, who's been named the acting captain of our Aussie 7s mens' rugby team.
He'll be in action over the last three days of competition, as will fellow Coastie Ellia Green in the Womens' side.
But the first local in action is 19 year old Shelley Beach swimmer Brad Woodward. He'll compete in Heat 3 of Men's 100 metre backstroke from midday today.
He'll swim again in the finals tonight if he's successful, but if not he'll have another chance to prove himself on Monday, in Heat 1 of the 200 metres backstroke event around 10:30am.
Chittaway Point's Nick Yallouris will represent us in track cycling this afternoon, when qualifiers for the Men's 1000m time trial final get underway at 2:30pm.
Killarney Vale's Matt Dawson will join the national hockey team on the field from 4:30pm on Saturday, as the Kookaburras kick off their games campaign against South Africa.
While Tascott's Nicola McDermott will be waiting until 10am Thursday week, before she gets her shot at Gold in the Women's high Jump.
