Big Burn This Weekend

RFS to target 380+ hectares

Big Burn This Weekend

A major hazard reduction burn is planned for this weekend (Saturday 26th August 2017 through to Sunday 27th August 2017) at Wyee, weather permitting. Almost 150 volunteers involved. 13 fire trucks. 1 helicopter. Expect lots of smoke.

Here's the official blurb from the RFS....

Dyce Rd HR, 382 hectares of bushland to the west of Dyce & Manhire Rd’s Wyee. The burn is 2km west of the M1 Pacific Motorway. Forecasted winds are likely to blow smoke towards the M1 Pacific Mortorway between the Hue Hue Rd overpass and the Morisset Interchange. The burn will commence approximately 8:00am with the majority of the burn completed by 6:00pm. Ongoing patrols will be undertaken Saturday night, throughout Sunday and or until no longer required.

There may be some smoke and fire activity visible from local roadways during and after the hazard reduction operation. Motorists in this area should slow down and take care if driving through smoke, including keeping windows up and turning their headlights on. Residents in this area should take the appropriate precautions including keeping doors and windows closed, remove washing from clothes lines and ensure any pets are in a protected area. Residents may also experience discoloured water due to fire fighters extracting water from the water mains during the hazard reduction operation.
