A Umina Beach artist is hoping a local politician is his good luck charm, as he eyes off the country's top portrait competition.
Terry Matthews has submitted a painting of Gosford MP Liesl Tesch to the Archibald Prize.
Ms Tesch says Red, Green and Gold were some of the colours mixed up on the palate, representing her roles as a Labor politician and Paralympic gold medallist for Oz.
"More than 1000 (entrants) come in and only 30 or 40 are chosen to go onto display, but I've had a fabulous journey with Terry," she says.
Last year, The Entrance's Peter Smeeth won the Archibald's Packing Room Prize, for his portrait of TV personality Lisa Wilkinson.
