Mixed results for Coast in latest BOCSAR report

DV up, theft down.

Mixed results for Coast in latest BOCSAR report

The latest Bureau of Crime Statistics update has both good and bad news for the Central Coast.

Domestic violence-related assaults increased by 12 per cent in the two years to March, while Theft from retail stores was down by more than 18%.

A further breakdown of the stats shows thefts from cars and fraud each rose by more than 17% in the Gosford area over the 24 month period.

Meanwhile in Wyong, thefts from homes and motor vehicles each increased by more than 20%, and the DV increase was 19%.

Statewide, all major crime categories either fell or remained stable of the 24-month period, however the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle areas saw a marked increase in four of the 17 major offence categories including steal from retail store (19.6%).

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller has used the falling rates to talk up the force's "targeted and proactive policing".
