A 23 year old motorcyclist has become the second coastie in as many days to be airlifted to John Hunter Hospital with a broken leg.
The young man was thrown off his bike when a 74 year old motorist hit him while turning into mataram road from the southbound lane of the pacific highway around 7:30 last night.
Emergency services closed the Woongarrah scene for several hours while investigating the crash and attending to the man - police say it now appears defective headlights on the bike were the main factor in the collision.
A breath test on the 74 year old driver came back negative.
While there's been another accident in the same area this morning - a car has hit a power pole on wallarah road and blacked out 1700 houses and businesses.
The incident occurred around 5:30 this morning, and Ausgrid is currently working to replace the power pole by 8am.
