Geminid Meteor Shower Peaks

CQ residents get VIP view

Geminid Meteor Shower Peaks

The annual Geminids meteor shower will peak tonight and the early hours of tomorrow, before fading away on Friday, 15 December.

The shower can be seen throughout Australia but visibility increases the further north you are – so CQ residents are well placed to enjoy the spectacle.

Viewers in the region can expect to see up to 30 meteors an hour during the peak, which should hit between 4am and sunrise.

Telescope owners can also catch a glimpse of 3200 Paethon, the 5km-wide asteroid responsible for the meteors.
