The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter is stationed at the Coffs Harbour Airport after their medical team were winched onto a cruise ship off the Coffs Coast.
Just after 3:30pm the helicopter made its way to the MV Carnival Legend on request by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
The medical team are currently on board the ship treating an 82 year old male in an induced coma.
According to a spokesperson for the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter, they told Triple M, "They will then stretcher winch the patient out within the next hour or so and fly the patient to Lismore Base Hospital".
The cruise ship is currently 60 nautical miles off Coffs Harbour.
A short time ago the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter arrived at the Coffs Harbour Airport for refuelling.
An operation is underway with a cruise ship off the coast of Coffs Harbour this afternoon.
The alarm was raised with Triple M after an aircraft operated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority was found to be circling the area, east of Nambucca Heads.
The Lismore Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter has confirmed that they are currently conducting a winch mission off Coffs Harbour.
