Calls For Workers To Take Sickies Without Having To Tell The Boss Why

Australia's new National Mental Health Commissioner reckons Aussie workers should be allowed to take a sick day without disclosing a reason to their boss, in case they are suffering with mental health problems.

Lucy Brogden is calling on employers to get innovative with how they deal with mental health, so that potential recovery isn't harboured by anxiety. She believes at least two of three days of unexplained sick leave every year should be allowed.

"'The old food poisoning, migraine (reason) - that's often covering up for a mental health day," Brodgen told The Daily Telegraph.

Every year, around one in every five Aussies experiences a mental illness, while we're spending an estimated A$8 billion on mental health related services.
