Experts Warn Plane Turbulence Set To Triple

In bad news for nervous travellers, experts have predicted that in the future a lot more time will be spent buckled up on planes with 'severe turbulence' tipped to become more common.

Research from the University of Reading suggests that as a consequence of climate change, 'severe turbulence' - which is stronger than gravity - will dramatically increase by 2050 to 2080.

This level of extreme turbulence is identified as that which is strong enough to throw people and luggage around an airport cabin.

The impact differs across the board, with turbulence over the North Atlantic to blow out by a 180 per cent increase, with Europe to expect a 160 per cent increase and Asia by 60 per cent.
