The situation has turned catastrophic for Townsville as the dam gates are now open at full capacity, after being smashed for days with torrential rain. More than 2,000 cubic metres of water per second is spilling out of the Ross River Dam.
Twenty suburbs have been issued with flood warnings, while thousands are without power and can't go back to their homes. The Bruce Highway remains cut, with no trucks able to bring food to the Far North, leaving our supermarket shelves looking very bare.
