Gold Coast midfielder Pearce Hanley has been injured on his return to the Suns’ NEAFL side today, according to the league's media manager.
Hanley injured his ankle in the match Aspley at South Pines Sports Complex, and was seen on the sidelines later in a moon boot.
The match was Hanley’s first competitive hit out since he was granted compassionate leave to go home to Ireland to be with his brother Tommy who was dying of cancer.
His brother Cian, who plays for the Brisbane Lions, was also granted leave.
Tommy Hanley passed away aged 16 in late March.
Gold Coast’s reserves won their match against Aspley, 13.9 (87) to 10.13 (73).
